Mama's in the Garden | A Wilder Way wellbeing day

£150.00

29th November 2026

A wellbeing day designed for mothers to experience the wide-ranging therapeutic properties of gardening in nature.

Held in the peaceful beauty of Anran at Tidwell Farm, a private estate nestled in our magic filled South Devon hills. The day will run 9:45 - 15:30 and include a gardening workshop in the kitchen garden, led by myself, a hot sit down lunch, a mother’s circle held by a psychotherapist and shamanic practitioner, all concluded with a sauna and hot tub.

You will go home with a goody bag full of treats and a more spacious and inspired mind.

The gardening workshop will take place in the Anran kitchen garden which is tended by head gardener Jenny Thompson. Jenny manages the inspiring space organically and following permaculture principles. In the gardening workshop I will cover the practical, as well as gardening as means to live more sustainably, connect with the seasons, and gardening as a habit to support mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. We will explore how a gardening practice can help us to better understand the wisdom held in traditional myths and folklore and generate valuable ways of seeing the world and relating in it. The gardening session will help us settle into our bodies, connect with our fellow mamas, clear our minds and generate an atmosphere of reflection ahead of our mother’s circle.

The mother’s circle will be held by, Christiane, a mother to adult children and practitioner with many years of experience supporting women to share and process in circle together. In the sharing circle we will literally sit together, in a circle and take it in turns to talk. The flow of the day will support us to communicate honestly, openly and comfortably. Christiane's holding technique is informed by shamanic practice, animism and ritual. Modern motherhood can be a lonely experience, communal witnessing can allow what is shared to be collectively metabolised, allowing mothering and all it brings to be a shared and transformational human experience, rather than an isolating and limiting one.

I have found mindful presence in nature, combined with personal reflection and human connection to be a potent medicine and route home to oneself. Come and see what unfolds, there is no right or wrong and no prior experience necessary. You are welcome, Mama.

‘In the Garden’ wellbeing days emerged from my own experience growing in community gardens, at home and the research I undertook from my book, A Wilder Way, on gardening for human and planetary health. I have found gardening to be a valuable tool for embodying a grounded and kinder way of life. We will explore this together, in the garden.

Details:

This is a day for mothers. That said, if you have a babe in arms they are welcome to join you but please be mindful that the flow of the day is designed for mothers, rather than our little ones and in some cases it may be hard for mothers to drop into a self reflective space while actively caring. If you would like to attend but are still breastfeeding or otherwise needed close by, you could book accommodation on site so your child/children can spend the day with another carer, while you drop in on them as needed. But again please be mindful that in some cases this could disrupt your ability to relax into the group & the day. Please do reach out to me if you have any questions or requests, I want this to be as accessible for mothers as possible, while also respecting and holding a restorative container.

If you are traveling to attend this wellbeing day and would like to book accommodation on the estate, you can find options here: accommodation on the estate.

Lunch will be plant forward and you will have a choice of plant based or wild meat. There will be plenty of tea and snacks throughout the day.

We will be outdoors for some of the day, the weather may be cold, wet or windy. Please only book if you feel resourced to be in the elements (and have appropriate outdoors gear).  Having said this, being outdoors in “bad” weather can be a deeply liberating experience in itself! We will also be spending time in a beautiful cozy farm house with a wood burner, have hot food and warm drinks and hot tub & sauna, plenty to warm the bones, so please don’t be put off!

If you decide to join us, I will be in touch with any additional information in the weeks before we gather. I can not wait to be with you in the garden!
